I've only owned this laptop for a few weeks. Long enough to know it's quite a mixed bag.
Other reviewers make valid comment when they cite the average quality display (both in resolution and quality).
The machine does run too hot for comfort at times too.
But, crucially, it meets my needs :-
- there is serious cpu horsepower under the lid
- a maximum 16Gb ram is a real plus
- the external dvd drive aids the portability of the machine for me
- A 15in screen is fine for my needs (I seek a fairly portable desktop replacement).
This is the key issue. It is by no means a 'one size fits all' machine.
I do think gamers could look elsewhere; picture editing specialists will need a better display; battery life definitely rules out the laptop road warrior.
But if you can live with the weaknesses it may still work for you.

Very nice machine in every respect except that of matching the specification given above. The display is actually a very disappointing 1366x768 pixels (spec. says 1920x1080) and the memory is loaded as 2 x 2Gb sticks (spec. says 1 x 4Gb) - if you want to upgrade to the maximum this machine will accept you'll be throwing away those 2 memory sticks.
I'm left feeling quite cheated - HP don't appear to be supplying the high end kit in the UK that they are providing in the american market. It's all packaged back up ready to be returned to amazon now...
